Role Definition Market Expert for China. Act as consultant to senior management on strategy development. Oversees and conducts Strategy & Planning (S&P) research including strategy, data collection, analyses, modeling and engagement reporting for CAT business in China. Facilitator, integrator and project resource to align the strategies, targets and execution plans across different BU’s/functions to China to maximize return to the enterprise and achieve profitable growth and market leadership in China. Responsibilities • Accumulates solid knowledge base for Caterpillar products/service segments and Cat end-to-end business model. • Collects and analyzes strategic level competitive intelligence, economic and political environment/ trends related to our business portfolio in China. • Performs complex qualitative and quantitative research for S&P engagements using advanced research knowledge and techniques for a business segment to derive key S&P trends, insights and conclusions. • When needed, manages consulting projects including determines research strategy, leads and oversees data collection and analysis and synthesize research findings as S&P recommendations for a business segment. • Identifies opportunities, critical issues/ strategic improvement opportunities related to end-to-end CAT business model in China. • Drive/facilitate solution development and collaboration projects across different BUs/functions. • Host / facilitate China Country level governance process for initiatives /projects cross-BUs in nature, govern and support the execution of solutions. Typical internal customers include BU business leaders across all Cat businesses operating in or important to the China markets. External contacts include various industry experts, vendors and dealers/customers in the China markets. The position requires familiarity of CAT business model, significant business acumen, strategic thinking ability, quick learning capability and experience as well as strong leadership, facilitation and communication skills. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems, develops or recommend solutions to solve problems. The incumbent will possess Project Management, Consulting, NPI, and 6 Sigma background, preferably intensive experiences in customers/dealers facing organizations such as product group, marketing, sales and dealers support etc. The incumbent sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. Good human relations skills are required to develop a cooperative work relationship with many others outside the department, more importantly the incumbent needs to be self-motivated to initiate new work and drive though resolution. Moderate travel required (15% of working time). Degree Requirement Master’s Degree, MBA Degree or consulting experience desired, CMA, PMP are preferred. Fluent oral and written English skills. High level English certificates like BEC-Higher or equivalent are desired. Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of "big picture" thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization. Level Extensive Experience: • Directs strategic alliances and partnerships for mutual benefit. • Makes sound business decisions on behalf of the group when faced with complex and contradictory alternatives. • Builds the strategic thinking capability of the group. • Interprets available data and analyses when creating business plans. • Recommends ways to position the organization for long-term competitiveness. • Prepares the group's response to key marketplace trends, opportunities, and vulnerabilities. Research Analysis: Knowledge of the concepts, methodologies and methods of research analysis; ability to locate, interpret and evaluate research findings compiled and documented by others. Level Extensive Experience: • Interprets new findings and analyzes their validity. • Advises on advanced research analysis methods. • Evaluates research analysis best practices within the industry. • Analyzes published research reports and their possible implications. • Implements research analysis standards within the organization. • Controls the quality of research analysis. Producing Results: Understanding of the criticality of getting things done in spite of current circumstances and the ability to utilize assigned resources and leverage back-channel resources (individuals or teams) to achieve or exceed planned outcomes. Level Extensive Experience: • Evaluates stakeholder profiles, roles, claims and interests in an organization and how these may conflict. • Consults stakeholders in identifying opportunities for strategic change while evaluating the strategic choices available to an organization. • Manages conflicting stakeholder priorities, when implementing strategic-change initiatives. • Oversees business operations and resource allocation with strategic objectives and the drivers of shareholder and stakeholder value. • Reviews professional values and ethical judgment in all aspects of work. • Oversees key client reviews to assure service and stakeholder satisfaction. Consulting: Knowledge of techniques, roles, and responsibilities in providing technical or business guidance to clients, both internal and external; ability to apply consulting knowledge appropriately. Level Working Knowledge: • Explains the requirements, deliverables, costs, and criticalities of the assignment. • Participates in developing consulting opportunities or assignments. • Uses formal and informal means to keep client informed on progress and issues. • Carries out the agreed-upon consulting assignment in a professional manner. • Documents client's objectives and project scope. Consulting Process & Tools: Knowledge of consulting process; ability to engage in planning sales, conducting research and analysis, finding solutions and preparing recommendations. Level Working Knowledge: • Complies with agreed engagement and quality management processes and standards. • Manages low risk projects and their own delivery under the guidance of more experienced colleagues. • Develops and demonstrates awareness of a range of diagnostic tools. • Analyzes and effectively presents data to support proposed solutions. • Shows the ability to complete and draw closure on their own deliverables.
